Tragically, a heroin overdose took the life of Kai Nesius, an intelligent and talented student at Ohio University. We announce his passing with heavy hearts. The passing of 22-year-old Kai has left a community in sorrow and a family reeling from an unfathomable tragedy. As a child, Kai enjoyed the unconditional love of his Charleston, West Virginia, family and friends. From a young age on, Kai’s potential shone through as an educated and caring person.
To further their education, Kai enrolled at Ohio University, where they were involved in campus life while studying. Those lucky enough to know Kai were captivated by their infectious enthusiasm for life and their drive to make a positive impact on the world.
Faculty and friends of Kai recall him as a selfless student who was always happy to help out a fellow student. The infectious energy that Kai brought to everything that they did, whether it was schoolwork or extracurricular activities, had a profound effect on everyone around them.
Despite their brave and determined fight, the plague of heroin addiction tragically blighted Kai’s journey. The complexities of addiction and the importance of compassion in trying times are brought to light by the fact that many people were touched by Kai’s warmth and generosity despite their challenges.
The people left behind by Kai’s death are asking for privacy as they try to cope with the magnitude of their loss. Friends and family will meet for a memorial service to honor Kai’s life.
