Michael J. McMorrow, 61, of Woodlawn, New York, died peacefully on December 14, 2023. His devoted wife Diane and their three children—Erin, Michael (Kara), and Brendan (April)—survived him. He also leaves grandsons Brendan and Molly. Mike’s father Patrick McMorrow survives him, along with his mother Maura (Charley), and siblings Trisha (John), Mark (Barbara), and Ann. Danny Lovett, Ann Kennedy’s brother-in-law, and his twenty-odd nieces and nephews loved him.
His beloved pet Rosie will miss him as much as he does. Mike McMorrow was born in the Bronx to Patrick and Annie on June 8, 1962. Number one of five children. He retired from General Motors after thirty years after graduating from St. Nicholas of Tolentine School. He married his elementary school love Diane Lovett and had a great marriage. He was overjoyed with Michael Sr., Brendan, and Erin, his latest acquisitions. Mike became extensively involved in Woodlawn after moving there with his family in 1985.
Besides his cutting sarcasm, Mike liked country music, crime dramas, police procedurals, and Family Feud. He loved the Mets and Jets. Mike loved every role in his life, from child to spouse to parent to brother-in-law to godfather to buddy. His favorite role was “Grumpa.” Because of his first grandson, Brendan, in 2015 and his second, Molly, in 2019, Dad got this charming nickname. Grumpa liked teaching kids how to throw Nerf darts, steal candy before dinner, and pick a Super Bowl box.
Mike’s in-laws Catherine and Daniel Lovett and brother-in-law John Kennedy started a lovely love and happiness tale that he continues with his beloved mother Annie McMorrow. His loved ones will grieve.
