The world lost a beautiful and graceful woman on December 13, 2023, at the age of 94, when Merle Hinkle Green went to be with the Lord. Merle Urquhart was born to Sam and Ora on March 5, 1929, in Holmes County, Florida. Her life was a powerful testimony of love, faith, and unfaltering strength. The grace and charisma that Merle exhibited throughout her life were hallmarks of her time as a proud alumnus of Holmes County, Florida’s Bethlehem High School.
Everyone lucky enough to know her was won over by her generous hospitality. In addition to being a beautiful and refined lady, Merle was a rock for those closest to her. As a voracious reader, Merle discovered comfort and delight within the realm of literature. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with loved ones, and her devotion to her faith drove her to participate actively in church events. A tapestry of love, faith, and treasured moments shared with loved ones was Merle’s life.
Sam and Ora Urquhart, Merle’s parents, her husband Lawrence “L.M.” Green Jr., her siblings Jim and Helen Urquhart, Beverly Forbes, a bonus daughter, and James Hinkle, who was their father, all passed away before her. Ruth Daniel of North Carolina is her sister. Teresa Poston (Phil) of Clarksville, TN; William Hinkle (Paula) of Haines City, FL; Tamesia Irwin (Ed) of Winter Haven, FL; Larry Green (Helen) of Lake Butler, FL; and Pamela Waters (Jerry) of Lake Hamilton, FL are her five children and bonus children.
Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless other friends and family are all part of Merle’s legacy. The Village Church of God in Winter Haven will have a visitation in memory of Merle from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Pastors Josh Hollingsworth and Dale Broom will officiate the funeral ceremony at 11:00 AM. After that, the funeral will be held at Winter Haven, Florida’s Lakeside Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family would really appreciate it if you could donate to organization, which was very important to Merle. Merle Hinkle Green’s kind attitude, unending love, and lasting impression on those lucky enough to have known her will live on in the memories of those who were lucky enough to know her. She served the Lord with all her heart; may she now rest peacefully in his arms.
