A life well-lived, a legacy of love and devotion was left behind by Jerry Mitchell Gassiot, 86, of Montrose, Colorado, who died away on December 7th, 2023. Jerry, who was born to Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Gassiot on October 17, 1937, in Bollinger, Texas, devoted his life to his loved ones, his religion, and his hobbies. The following people will remember Jerry: his loving wife, Mary Kathryn (Kathy) Gassiot, and their children.
Dawniell M. Gassiot, Serena K.M. McNamer, Rylee M. Ford, chosen daughter Chauncey Edwards, Jedediah J. Gassiot, Sydney M. Gassiot-Wallace, and Shawna M. Gassiot. His parents and siblings—Bill, David, and Jo—passed away before him. Beginning his career as a fireman and subsequently moving into sales for the steel business, Jerry had a varied and rewarding professional trajectory. He retired in 1998 after a long career, culminating in his role as Division Manager for Reliance Steel in Wyoming.
He frequently referred to the valley as his little piece of heaven, and Jerry discovered peace and contentment there, so he and Kathy settled in Montrose. Jerry and Kathy went on innumerable adventures in his spare time, meeting and becoming friends with individuals from all walks of life. Jerry discovered happiness and contentment in engaging in his hobbies—hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He read extensively and had a great love for the history of the Civil War.
In honor of Jerry’s life, his family will host a private memorial service at a later date. The family is receiving assistance with the arrangements from the compassionate staff at Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose, Colorado. Donations in Jerry’s name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Grace Community Church benevolence fund instead of flowers, per the family’s desire.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone who has shown them kindness and support over the years, but especially to Dr. Michael Brezinsky, whose empathy and attentiveness afforded Jerry and his loved ones solace for 23 years.
Jerry Mitchell Gassiot’s many interests, his devotion to God, his love for his loved ones, his prosperous career, and his many accomplishments will live on in our memories. Those lucky enough to have known and loved him should find solace and courage in his memory.
