Gordon E. Shears Obituary, Ashtabula Longtime Resident Has Died

Gordon E. Shears’ family and friends All of Marcy sends our sympathies. Gordon, 97, died quietly at his Ashtabula home on Friday, December 15, 2023. He was beloved by our community. Gordon Shears was born May 9, 1926, in North Kingsville, Ohio. In love, Clarence and Alice Shears nurtured him. The 1944 Kingsville High School graduate was proud of his class. Leaving the New York Central Railroad, he joined the Army. His WWII European Theater service was valiant.

After his honorable release, he attended Cleveland’s Radio School and worked at a local station, realizing his lifelong dream of working in radio. Gordon got a terrific job at Electromet (previously Elkem Metals) in his home country. After a distinguished shift supervisor career, he retired in 1985. Gordon wanted to keep helping others after retiring to avoid slowing down. Marcy Funeral Home and Family Care Group admired him. He comforted sad relatives while driving funeral hearses.

Gordon was a deacon and trustee at Kingsville First Baptist Church, demonstrating his faith. He joined the Ashtabula Crank Bicycle Club to express his love of life and nature through biking. Following his death were his parents, wife Peggy, children Terry and Judy, brothers Leslie, Harold, Donald, and Richard, a newborn, and sisters Donna and Alice. His children, Mark, Debra, and Richard, and his ten great-grandchildren are Judy Kay, Mark Jr., Rebekah, Amanda, Sarah, Ashlie, Frank, Amy, and Michael.

He also lost his 33-year partner Ruth Powell. Gordon’s funeral will be place at Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

The funeral home’s Facebook page will livestream the service for friends and relatives. American Legion Cowel Post #151 will perform military honors after the interment at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville, Ohio.

Visitors can pay their condolences at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:live stream30 am to 1:00 pm before the service. Instead of flowers, donate to Koinonia Camp and Conference at 6810 Cork Cold Springs Rd., Geneva, OH 44041.

Get the envelopes at the funeral home. Gordon E. Shears will be remembered for his dedication, generosity, and good impact on all who knew him. Peace be upon him forever.
