Joann O’Donnell Obituary, In Loving Memory of Joann “Jo” O’Donnell

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Joann “Jo” O’Donnell. Jo, who touched the lives of many with her warmth, dedication, and infectious spirit, left us on December 1, 2022, at the age of 49, after bravely battling cancer. Her departure has left a void in our hearts, but her legacy and the indelible mark she made on our Radiology Department will forever be remembered.

Jo joined our Trust family in January 2010 as a Radiology Department Assistant (RDA). From the beginning, her passion for her work and compassionate nature set her apart. Her commitment to excellence did not go unnoticed, and in January 2011, she embarked on a journey to further her skills by training as a Radiology Assistant Practitioner (AP).

In September 2013, Jo achieved a significant milestone in her career by becoming one of the first Assistant Practitioners in Plain Film at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH). Her pioneering spirit and willingness to embrace challenges were evident in her every endeavor. Jo’s dedication to expanding her knowledge and skills not only contributed to her personal growth but also elevated the standards of our Radiology Department.

Jo was more than just a colleague; she was a pillar of support and a source of inspiration for those around her. Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds, and she approached each day with a positive attitude that lifted the spirits of everyone fortunate enough to work alongside her. Jo’s ability to foster a sense of camaraderie and unity within the team made the Radiology Department feel like a second family.

Jo’s legacy extends far beyond the walls of our hospital. Her unwavering commitment to patient care and her relentless pursuit of excellence have left an enduring impact on our department and the broader healthcare community. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the remarkable contributions she made during her time with us. In honor of Jo’s memory, the Radiology Department will establish an annual award recognizing outstanding dedication, compassion, and innovation – qualities that defined Jo’s professional journey. This award will serve as a testament to her legacy, ensuring that her spirit continues to inspire future generations of healthcare professionals.

Joann “Jo” O’Donnell was not just a colleague; she was a radiant light in our Radiology Department, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. As we come to terms with the loss of a dear friend and dedicated professional, we find solace in remembering the positive impact she had on all our lives.

Jo’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her, and her contributions to healthcare will forever be etched in the history of our Radiology Department. May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy continues to shine brightly through the lives she touched.
