Jack Simpson Obituary, Montezuma IN Resident Has Died

On Thursday, December 7, 2023, the tight-knit community of Montezuma bid farewell to one of its cherished members, Jack L. Simpson, who passed away at the age of 70 at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice in Terre Haute. Jack’s life was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a passion for the simple joys that made his presence unforgettable.

Jack was born on September 9, 1953, in Clinton, Indiana, to Ray and Hilda Simpson. Growing up in a small town, Jack developed a strong sense of community and a love for the outdoors from an early age. These values stayed with him throughout his life and played a significant role in shaping the man he became.

One of the defining aspects of Jack’s life was his dedication to the United Automobile Workers (UAW) union. As a proud member, Jack contributed to the strength and unity of the local workforce, leaving a lasting impact on the community. His commitment to the union reflected his belief in the power of collective action and the importance of standing together for common goals.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Jack found solace and joy in various hobbies and pastimes. A passionate hunter, he embraced the thrill of the chase, spending countless hours immersed in nature. Fishing was another of Jack’s favorite pastimes, providing him with moments of tranquility by the water and opportunities to connect with friends who shared his love for the sport.

For Jack, the Mecca Tavern was more than just a local watering hole; it was a place where friendships were forged and memories were made. Whether it was over a game of pool, lively conversations, or just sharing a quiet drink, Jack’s presence at the Mecca Tavern was a cornerstone of his social life.

The Fish & Game Club in Montezuma held a special place in Jack’s heart. This was where he indulged in his love for card games, particularly euchre and poker. Fellow members remember Jack as a skilled and strategic player, bringing a competitive yet friendly spirit to every game. The camaraderie and shared laughter at the card table were as important to Jack as the games themselves.

Perhaps one of the more endearing aspects of Jack’s personality was his fondness for diet cokes. A familiar sight at social gatherings and events, Jack’s choice of beverage became a trademark, eliciting smiles and good-natured teasing from friends and family.

Above all, Jack cherished time spent with loved ones. Whether it was a weekend hunting trip, an evening at the tavern, or a quiet game of cards at the Fish & Game Club, Jack’s love for his friends and family shone through.
