On Sunday, December 10, 2023, the world lost a bright and vibrant soul as Susan Gale Glithero (née Scanlon) peacefully passed away. Born on February 6, 1955, in La Porte, Indiana, Sue was the daughter of Dorris (née Wilson) and Russell Scanlon. Her journey through life was marked by a rich tapestry of experiences, passion, and community service.
Sue’s educational journey took her through North Central High School in Indianapolis, IN, and Campbellsville College in Kentucky. Her professional life saw her navigating the electronic sales industry, holding various roles until her well-deserved retirement in 2010. Seeking warmth and new adventures, Sue, alongside her husband Tom, ventured south to Smithfield, NC, in 2012, bidding farewell to the snowy landscapes.
In retirement, Sue dedicated her time to the pursuits she loved most—gardening, sewing, crafting, and watercolor painting. Her commitment to community service was evident through years of volunteering at West Smithfield Elementary and her active involvement in the St. Ann’s Ladies Guild, where she served as president for multiple years. Sue was also a cherished member of Way of Life Baptist Church in Clayton.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, survived by her two stepdaughters, Kristina Glithero and Amanda Glithero, and siblings Dennis (Carol) Scanlon, Cindy (Gary) Price, Mike (Kim) Scanlon, and Beth Scanlon. Numerous nieces, nephews, and chosen family also mourn her passing. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Thomas Glithero.
A memorial service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 19, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed live through the Facebook page of McLaurin Funeral Home, allowing friends and family from near and far to join in honoring Sue’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the St. Ann Catholic Church Ladies Guild (Clayton, NC) or the Way of Life Baptist Church (Clayton, NC). These contributions serve as a meaningful tribute to Sue’s spirit of generosity and her commitment to the community she held dear.
As we say our goodbyes, Sue’s impact on the lives she touched will endure through the memories of her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for family and community.
