Mike Smith Obituary, Mike Smith, Retired Captain, Is Remembered With Special Affection

We are saddened to inform you that our dear brother, Ret. Captain Mike Smith, passed away peacefully last night at his home in Cortland. It is with heavy hearts that we share this news with you. The knowledge that his years of suffering have finally come to an end brings us some measure of comfort, despite the fact that the agony of his leaving is great.

Retired Captain Mike Smith displayed unflinching bravery in the face of life, both in the military and in the struggles he experienced in his personal life. His ability to persevere and his dogged drive served as an example to everyone who knew him.

The people who were lucky enough to be a part of his path were able to appreciate and admire him because of the grace with which he carried himself through the challenges and difficulties he faced.

As we say our final goodbyes to our cherished older brother, we have made the conscious decision to reflect on the times of happiness and resilience that characterized his extraordinary life. We shall never forget his legacy as a retired captain and as a tower of strength inside our family. His legacy will live on forever.

Rest in peace, Retired Captain Mike Smith, and may he finally be free from the responsibilities that he courageously carried for such a long time. Our hearts are broken because of the emptiness that his departure has created, but we find solace in the fact that he is finally at peace within his own body.

Dear brother, may you rest in peace knowing that your memory will endure in our hearts forever, and that your spirit will continue to lead us through the difficulties that life undoubtedly brings.
