In loving memory of Mrs. Mildred Anita Greene, Winfield mourns the passing of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. Born on June 18, 1946, in Leeds, Alabama, to Reverend George Emmitt and Mary Evelyn Thompson Smith, Mrs. Greene’s journey was one of love, service, and community engagement.
A devoted member of Winfield First Baptist Church, Mrs. Greene’s faith guided her throughout her life. Her educational journey led her to Trion, GA, where she graduated in 1964. Later, she earned a degree in Real Estate, embarking on a career as a realtor and substitute teacher for Winfield City School system. Eventually, she ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing her own printing business.
For over 25 years, Mrs. Greene shared her wisdom and love as a Sunday School teacher, leaving an indelible mark on the 5th-grade class. Her commitment to community extended beyond the church, as she became a charter member of the Modern Culture Club. In her leisure, she indulged in various artistic pursuits, including stained glass, painting, and pottery making. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Greene is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Harold Greene, daughters Beth Roberts (Darren) and Kayren Burt (Daryl), grandchildren Cody Roberts (Becky), Cooper Burt, and Emily Burt, and great-granddaughter Lily Roberts. She is also remembered by her sister-in-law, Linda Greene Tripp, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother Bob Smith, and brother-in-law Michael Greene, Mrs. Greene’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched. The funeral service, scheduled for December 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel, will be a time for family, friends, and the community to come together to celebrate her life.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Alabama, a gesture of gratitude for the exceptional care provided during Mrs. Greene’s time of need.
Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield is honored to serve the Greene family during this difficult time, and Winfield stands united in remembering and cherishing the life of Mrs. Mildred Anita Greene.
