Barbara Wojcik Obituary, A Life Lived With Passion And Purpose

In the tapestry of life, the thread representing Barbara Ann Wojcik (nee Vasilko) has gracefully woven a legacy of love, family, and adventure. Born on March 11, 1938, Barbara’s journey on this earth concluded peacefully on December 3, 2023, at the age of 85, surrounded by the warmth of her family.

Barbara, fondly known as Barb, was the cherished wife of Walter, and their remarkable love story endured for an incredible 65 years. Together, they crafted a legacy of love and family that will endure for generations to come. Barb is survived by her devoted husband Walter, six children and their spouses: Daniel and Susan(Opinker); Thomas and Linda(Haynes); Walt and Debbie(Kain); Debra and Al(Rokosz); Robert; Pamela; her brother Jim Vasilko; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Her memory will forever resonate in the hearts of numerous nieces and nephews.

Throughout her diverse life, Barb embraced various roles with grace and enthusiasm. A dedicated member of the Red Hat Ladies Society, she actively participated in the St. James Catholic Church community. Her career choices reflected her commitment to family, with stints as the lunch lady at Miller Elementary School, contributing to the Calumet Press, American States Insurance Company, and serving at Hammond City Hall.

In the kitchen, Barb’s culinary prowess was evident as she crafted delectable Polish pastries, sharing her love for baking with the local community. Her love for travel took her across the globe, exploring Europe, Italy, Las Vegas, Florida, and Texas with her beloved husband and friends.

From her youth as a skilled bowler nicknamed “Babs” to her adventures in Chicago, Barb’s life was a testament to her adventurous spirit. Her role as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother brought immeasurable joy to those around her.

A woman of generosity, Barb chose to donate her body to the IU School of Medicine, leaving a lasting impact on medical education and research. Her legacy of warmth, resilience, and enduring love will be celebrated in a memorial service on December 21, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church in Highland, IN. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by Mass at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. James Catholic Church in Barbara’s honor. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her enduring spirit continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
