Mrs. JoAlyn’s passing marks the end of a chapter in the Civic League, where she dedicated herself to making a positive impact on the lives of those around her. Born on September 22, 1939, in Bogalusa, Mrs.
JoAlyn was the daughter of Buford Alan and Marguerite Perrette. Raised in the close-knit community that would become the backdrop of her life, she grew up surrounded by the warmth and familiarity of Bogalusa. It was in this town that she encountered the love of her life, Wilson David “Squirrel” Thomas Jr., whom she married on December 4, 1957, embarking on a remarkable journey that spanned 65 years.
Mrs. JoAlyn’s commitment to community service manifested in her role as a charter member of the Civic League, a pillar of strength that contributed to the betterment of Bogalusa. Her dedication extended to the MCCA group, Aphrodite, where she played an integral part as a charter member. A woman of faith, she was also a member of the Superior Avenue Baptist Church, where her sense of community and love for others found a spiritual home. Professionally, Mrs. JoAlyn worked at Charity Hospital, showcasing her dedication to the well-being of her community.
However, her true calling was in the role of a homemaker, where she excelled and embodied the essence of motherhood. Fiercely protective of her family, she loved unconditionally, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she held dear.
Beyond her roles within the community and family, Mrs. JoAlyn embraced life with zest and joy. A lover of dance, cards, literature, and travel, she lived life to the fullest. An avid shopper, she delighted in the simple pleasures and found joy in the company of friends and family.
Her vibrant spirit added a layer of richness to the tapestry of her life. Mrs. JoAlyn’s enduring legacy lives on through her four sons: Wilson David Thomas III, Buford Darryl Thomas (Mary), Dean Alan Thomas (Shannon), and Danyon Shawn Thomas.
Her grandchildren, Brooke Rowell, Allie Harris, Dean Thomas Jr., Molly Thomas, Danyon Thomas Jr., Beau Thomas, and Asher Thomas, were recipients of her boundless love and wisdom. As a great-grandmother, Mrs. JoAlyn welcomed the next generation with open arms, leaving a legacy of love that transcends generations.
