We have gathered here today not only to express our sorrow over the loss of Brother James W. Mathews, a much-loved member of our community, but also to honor a life that has left an unmistakable impact on the Green Memorial Church in our immediate vicinity as well as on the AME Zion Church on a global scale.
We are able to take comfort in the everlasting grin that will be permanently carved in our hearts as we make our way through the waves of loss. Brother James W. Mathews was more than just a member of our community; he was a stalwart and a cornerstone whose presence was indispensable.
It was his persistent dedication to the Green Memorial Church as well as his contributions to the AME Zion Church that established him as a renowned figure not just in his community but also on a global scale. At the same time that we are contemplating the global influence that Brother Mathews has had, we have come to the realization that his legacy is not restricted to the confines of our church but rather reverberates in the hearts of people on every continent.
