It is with heavy hearts and a deep sense of loss that we gather to remember the life of William Brocklehurst, affectionately known as Bill, who peacefully passed away in the Prince of Wales Hospice after a brief illness at the age of 82. Surrounded by his loving family, Bill bid farewell to this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories.
Bill, a former miner and deputy at Fryston Colliery, dedicated many years of his life to his work and community. His commitment and hard work made a lasting impact on those he worked with and the lives he touched. Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and even a great-great-grandfather—a testament to the enduring love and warmth he shared with his family.
For 59 years, Bill was the devoted husband of the late Maxine, and together they built a life full of love and shared experiences. His legacy lives on through his children Carole, Susan, and Steven, as well as through his son-in-law Shaun and daughter-in-law Jayne. The love and support Bill provided to his family extended to being a Grandad to many, a great-grandad, and even a great-great-grandad—a patriarch whose influence touched generations.
Bill’s journey may have reached its earthly conclusion, but his memory will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. As we bid our final farewell, the funeral on Friday, 8th December at 1:40 pm at Pontefract Crematorium will be an opportunity to celebrate the life of a remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Prince of Wales Hospice—a place that provided comfort and care to Bill in his final days.
Following the service, the Fryston Welfare Club in Airedale will host a gathering for family and friends to share memories and find solace in each other’s company. May Bill’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find strength and support in the love they shared and the memories they hold dear.
