St. Joseph’s Hospital was the location where Carl “Skip” A. Messner, who was 85 years old and from Brecknock Township, passed away on August 28, 2016. In the course of their 34-year marriage, he was a devoted husband to Mary J. (Rebhan) Messner. He was the son of Carl B. Messner, who passed away, and Violet (Gehring) Messner, to whom he was born in Reading. He received his diploma from Reading High School in the year 1948. A member of the United States Army who served during the Korean War, Carl was a veteran.
In 1991, he took his retirement from the Metropolitan Edison Company, where he had worked as a civil engineer for the previous 35 years. a.The Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mohnton counted Carl as an active member of the congregation.
The Shin Hollow Rod and Gun Club and the Reading Water Skiers were two other organizations that he was a part of. Carl was a passionate outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He cherished the time he got to spend with his family, grandchildren, and his dogs, Casey and Max.
Taking care of his yard and pond, working out at Flying Hills Fitness Center, going to Chincoteague, Virginia, and watching Phillies and Eagles games were all activities that he enjoyed doing. In addition to being a beautiful, loving, and loyal husband, father, and grandfather, Carl will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Karyn L. Alam, who resides in Centreville, Virginia, and Jill D. Hawk, who resides in Temple; three step-children: Faith A., who is married to Michael Libbe and lives in Orlando, Florida; Alfred R., who is married to Annalisa Jordan and lives in Shillington; and William F., who is married to Lisa Jordan and lives in Harrisburg; two grandchildren: Zachary J. Alam and Omar C. Alam; and four step-grandchildren: Amy Jordan, Torey Jordan, Jonathan Jordan, and Emily Jordan.
